Queen Margrethe, who has reigned since 1972, shocked the world when she announced her intention to abdicate the throne in mid-January.

The outing marks the second appearance since the Queen announced her intention to step down, with the pair appearing alongside other members of the royal family at a New Year's Eve banquet on January 31.
